Jenna & Jordan’s Port Huron Wedding

Today marks the end of my busiest month since I started my photography business.  This month I had 6 weddings alone in addition to several portrait and engagement sessions.  It’s been an amazing month and I’ve been extremely happy to have been a part of so many amazing weddings.  Jenna & Jordan’s wedding included.  Jenna & Jordan were married at the beginning of the month at St. John’s United Church in Port Huron.  Although windy, the day was absolutely beautiful and filled with laughter, tears and lots of love.

The flowers were done by Rachel Cole with Praise! Floral Design and were absolutely beautiful…

Jenna & Jordan decided on a “First Look” and you know I couldn’t have been happier!

Love this image I caught of Jenna’s Dad during their first look.

Jordan, you looked perfectly dashing…

And Jenna was the perfect mix of romantic and stunning!

The whole wedding party!

The Alter at St. John’s was so detailed and made for such pretty pictures…

Mr. & Mrs.!!

Unfortunately Jordan’s Grandma was in the hospital and not able to make it to the wedding, and I love that they wanted to stop in and visit her…

I think she was pretty happy about that too!

Laughter filled the day…

Their first dance as Mr. & Mrs.!

Jenna & Jordan, I hope you had an amazing time on your honeymoon in Italy!  Thank you for including us in your day!

Lesley’s Hoop Jam in the Woods

When she first told me she bought a “Hoop” last fall I laughed and teased her and called her a hippie.  I assure you I wasn’t bullying her, in fact I’m honored and grateful to call her my best friend and besides she often counters with something about my becoming vegan.  :-)  She hoops, wears pachouli and would have been a perfect hippie peace child had she been born in that era, and this girl is one of the kindest, most caring and thoughtful people I know.  She’s inspired more people than I can even tell you, you really need to see the affect she has on people.  People are drawn to her and since she’s started hooping last fall, she’s put over 200 hoops into the world. Yes, she makes them too!  I even have 7 of my own and a few extras in case anyone wants to join me.  Hooping is ridiculously fun.  These aren’t your standard kid hula hoops you can buy in the store, these are bigger and heavier and much easier to use.  Even if you don’t think you can do it, Lesley will teach you how and have you hooping in no time.  Promise.

I suggested she let me take some promo pictures for her to use on her new website and on a beautiful Spring day we ventured out to the woods behind her house so I could capture her love for hooping!

This is one of my favorite images from our session together.  Can’t you see the joy?

The light in her woods was amazing

Serenity…

I caught this image right before she had to stop herself from falling over and I love it paired up with one of her signs at her house…

Another mantra of Lesley’s that I also keep in a place that I can see it every day…

Mmmm…  Sunflare!

Lesley is also a certified Hoop Instructor and teaches a hooping arobics class at the Dojo in Algonac on Saturday mornings.  It’s hard for me to get to now that wedding season is underway, but I took it once and what a workout!  I asked Lesley to tell me some of the reasons she loves hooping to share on my blog and she gave me her top 10 reasons she loves it.

1. I love the way the hoop feels rotating around my body.

2.  I love how it makes me smile from the inside out.

3. I love the people it has brought into my life.

4.  I love watching women who hooped as little girls but feel they have lost their mojo because they can not keep their grand daughters little plastic hula hoops up. Then they pick up one of my hoops and oh my Lord they still got it!  That little girl inside of them comes alive!

5. I love making hoops with sparkly tape.

6.  I love hooping with children.  They are never shy and will try almost anything.  I learn new moves from kids all the time.  Just the other day I learned I can hoop on my nose because a little girl asked if I could.

7. I love going to a park with a handful of hoops and within 15 minutes I have smiling faces twirling and swirling around me.

8. I love that I can dance with a hoop.  I love music but have never good dancer.  This is a wonderful outlet for self expression.

9.  I love that my hoop has helped to get my pre-baby figure back

10.  I think you get the idea…I love everything about hooping :)

Becca & Tommy’s Detroit Engagement Session

Lately I have a love/hate relationship with technology.  Most of the time I love it, but this past week has been challenging.  My e-mail was down and as I was working with my hosting company I thought I’d reboot my router, well I accidentally reset it back to factory settings and being I haven’t touched the settings on my router in years…  Without rambling, I’m sure you get the point.  I also decided to upgrade my software and operating system a few weeks ago and I’m not really sure how I feel about that yet.  Seems that my computer has slowed down a bit and as with any upgrade there’s some getting used to it.  But even though things have been a little sour in that department I still love technology.  I love the way it allows people to connect through social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest in today’s modern world.

Before Facebook and Twitter there were chat rooms.  Remember those?  :-)  So many of my couples meet online and in 2004 Rebecca and Tommy first started talking in a Yahoo chat room.  Although she lived in Oklahoma and Tommy here in Michigan the connection was there.  Lots of time spent chatting with each other developed into a long distance relationship and 4 years later Becca made the move here to Michigan to be with Tommy.  Like two pieces of a puzzle, they were just a natural fit together.  They are getting married this September and after spending time with them during their engagement session, I know we’re going to have fun at their wedding!

The morning was perfectly overcast leaving us with great diffused light for their session.

They laugh so easily together…

Since we were in the neighborhood, you know I couldn’t resist taking them to my favorite spot!

We had planned on finishing up their session at Belle Isle, but the Grand Prix was in town that weekend and the Island was torn apart as they got ready for the race.  So we decided to head over to the Heidelburg Project instead.

Just as we were finishing up, the skies opened up and the rain came down and I love these two images.  This one isn’t something that I would normally choose, since “technically” it’s out of focus, but there’s something about it that keeps drawing me back.

Michigan Photographer: St. Clair Shores Family Portraits

Here’s another session that I absolutely loved!  Cynthia had been talking about wanting pictures of the kids for quite a while, but with her busy schedule as Wife, Mom of two, owner of Magic Touch Salon and hair stylst extrordinare (she’s responsible for my fantastic color and style – which I love!) scheduling became a bit of a challenge.  Thankfully this spring it worked out that we would be at the same place at the same time, deciding to meet an hour before hand worked out perfectly!  We met up at Wahby Park to sneak in a quick session…

Could these two be any cuter?

I loved watching how well they got along.  Halle is a great big sister and you can tell that Dominic looks up to her.

And then a few minutes later this happened.  Gotta love a little boy!

Michigan Portrait Photographer: The Martz Family

One of the greatest honors as a photographer is repeat clients, people that loved your work so much the first time that they want to hire you again.  That my friends is truly an honor.  I first met the Martz family a few years ago when photographing Megan & Jordan’s wedding.  It was such a beautiful wedding and I was over the moon when Cheryl contacted me.  Both of her sons and their wives were going to be in town at the same time over Memorial Weekend and she wanted some updated photographs of them all together, believe me I say I was happy to oblige.

The whole family together, Megan, Jordan, Cheryl, Jon, Aaron & Melissa

I absolutely love this black and white series

The “Kids”

I hope the rest of their weekend was spent like this. Laughing and enjoying the time they got to spend together.
